چکیده

Random medium access control (MAC) plays a critical role in OFDMA wireless networks to support services with bursty traffic. However, the existing OFDMA random access protocols suffer from low efficiency due to the constraints in half-duplex communications. In this paper, the capability of full-duplex communications is leveraged to propose novel mechanisms such as full duplex carrier sensing, collision detection, and collision jamming. With these mechanisms, a full-duplex carrier sense multiple access with collision detection (FDCSMA/CD) protocol is developed for OFDMA wireless networks. It is based on a hierarchical design: (1) with full-duplex communications, operation of subchannels is decoupled, and a CSMA/CD-like protocol is implemented in each subchannel as a random access scheme; (2) on top of random access per-subchannel, a simple but effective subchannel selection scheme is executed locally on each client to harvest multi-user diversity. Both theoretical analysis and simulations are carried out to validate the effectiveness and efficiency of our protocol. 2014 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Max-Min Fairness User Scheduling and Power Allocation in Full-Duplex OFDMA Systems

In a full-duplex (FD) multi-user network, the system performance is not only limited by the selfinterference but also by the co-channel interference due to the simultaneous uplink and downlink transmissions. Joint design of the uplink/downlink transmission direction of users and the power allocation is crucial for achieving high system performance in the FD multi-user network. In this paper, we...

Fractional Fourier Transform Based OFDMA for Doubly Dispersive Channels

The performance of Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access (OFDMA) system degrades significantly in doubly dispersive channels. This is due to the fact that exponential sub-carriers do not match the singular functions of this type of channels. To solve this problem, we develop a system whose sub-carriers are chirp functions. This is equivalent to exploiting Fractional Fourier Transform (F...

Full-Duplex eNodeB and UE Design for 5G Networks

The recent progress in the area of selfinterference cancellation (SIC) design has enabled the development of full-duplex (FD) single and multiple antenna systems. In this paper, we propose a design for FD eNodeB (eNB) and user equipment (UE) for 5G networks. The use of FD operation enables simultaneous in-band uplink and downlink operation and thereby cutting down the spectrum requirement by ha...

A Joint Resource Allocation Scheme for Multi-User Full-Duplex OFDMA Systems

Full-duplex is a promising technology and great system performance enhancement can be achieved especially when we apply it to base stations. In this paper, we consider a Multi-User OFDMA network consisting of one Full-duplex base station, several uplink users, and a number of downlink users. A joint subcarrier, downlink user and uplink user mapping and power allocation optimization problem is i...

On Joint Sub-channel Allocation, Duplexing Mode Selection, and Power Control in Full-Duplex Co-Channel Femtocell Networks

As one of the promising approaches to increase the network capacity, Full-duplex (FD) communications have recently gained a remarkable attention. FD communication enables wireless nodes to simultaneously send and receive data through the same frequency band. Thanks to the recent achievements in the self-interference (SI) cancellation, this type of communication is expected to be potentially uti...
